Family Fun Day
The Catholic Diocese of Bathurst’s Family Fun Day was held on Sunday 26 April 2015.
The cold, wet weather and wind did not deter over 80 families coming together in the spirit of Christian love under the banner of the Church to spend quality time together, just having fun. The Diocesan Assembly Council committees for the Domestic Church and the Community of Love and Service jointly hosted Family Fun Day at the Cathedral School grounds, which attracted over 300 people.
The goal of the event was to bring together families, including those which do not attend church regularly, to enjoy time together acknowledging that families are the basic building blocks of a Christian community.
10am Mass was celebrated by Bishop Michael and was well attended with the Catholic school choir led by Christine Porter and Paul Hughes providing the music. The Family Fun Day followed straight after.
The day included family drumming, tiger jumping castle, tug-o-war, ball games, sack races, mechanical surfboard, BBQ lunch and drinks, iron man challenge, helium balloons, fairy floss, and popcorn. All the events and food were provided free to the families. The Harmonikos band and Paula Jackson provided live entertainment.
The following people generously donated their time for organisation of the event: Patrick Cooper, Sister Alice Sullivan, Patrick Allen, Anna and Josh Clayton, Amy Sullivan, Robert George and Cara Jacobs with assistance on the day from Centacare Bathurst workers Tiffany Stonestreet and Kayla Murphy, MacKillop and St. Stanislaus boarders, the Cathedral Men’s Choir and Margaret Gibson from the Cathedral Restoration Appeal. Eight Bathurst businesses supported the event by providing lucky door prizes and financial contributions were kindly received from the Catholic Diocese of Bathurst, Centacare Bathurst and the Sisters of Charity.
Attendees were extremely positive about the day and there were lots of happy faces and many new families attended Mass on Sunday morning!
