Caritas, as the official aid and development agency of the Catholic Church, provides a way for Australians to
respond to global problems of poverty.  Caritas Australia is part of  the international Caritas network.

Caritas Programs:
  • Development projects which enables communities to acquire the skills to assist them to move from situations of poverty, poor health or environmental degradation. Caritas programs support communities in addressing some of the causes of their poverty.
  • Disaster response when communities are in need from cyclones, earthquakes, famine and drought or
are displaced because of armed conflict.  Caritas Australia , as part of the international Caritas network,
and through the generosity of Australians, played a significant role in the Asian tsunami relief and rebuilding.

  • Education in schools, parishes and community groups here in Australia to raise awareness of the reality
and causes of poverty, hunger, oppression and injustice.

A Gospel Call:
Our response to those in need stems from our faith commitment to Jesus who proclaimed  He has sent me
to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free
(Lk 4:18)
and who continually calls us into right relationships with those in need.
