A message from His Holiness Pope Francis on World Communications Day 2017

As has become the tradition, on the Feast of St. Francis de Sales, the Holy Father publishes a message for World Communications Day, which is celebrated on the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. This year's theme is: "Fear not, for I am with you (Is 43.5): Communicating Hope and Trust in our Time".

World Communications Day is the only day explicitly mentioned by Vatican II. Pope Francis reminds us that, as Christians in the field of communications, we are summoned to ask ourselves how we can contribute to the understanding of the world and human life. This field has great potentials and offers new learning opportunities. Information exchange and participation go along with technological progress.

The Holy Father calls our attention to generate "a constructive communication that, by rejecting prejudices against others, fosters a culture of encounter, which allows us to learn to look at reality with a conscious trust".
